  LORE LINDU Lore Lindu is propbably the best place to see the unique avifauna of Sulawesi with 80% of the islands endemic species present. This is mainly because the park has different levels of altitude that can be visited. The main rule is altough that the higher the altitude the harder you’ve got to work for it. But the rewards are great, the park is beautiful and inhabits the endemic bird family(!) of Sulawesi: the Hylocitreidae (only one species: Hylocitrea). Add up special beauties like Racquet-tails, Bee-Eaters and Fruit-Doves and you know why Lore Lindu is on the wish list of many hardcore birders. MALAGUFUK Malagufuk is a small village inland in lowland forest and it has become famous with bird watchers. It’s both easy to reach (only 1.5 hour by car from Sorong) and very remote (3.5 hours of walking from the car to the village). The small community has put up a small ecotourism accommodation, what makes it easy to explore the surrounding forest in the early morning and late afternoon.  Because the bird watchers are important to the villagers’ income, the locale people protect the forests.
